The Clinics and Services
Each doctor is qualified to provide a full range of contraceptive, maternity, minor surgery and child health surveillance services.
New Patient Registration Checks
All new patients registering with the Practice will be asked to have a health screening assessment. This is usually done at your first appointment. We ask you to tell us that this is your first appointment with the practice, and ask for a double appointment. The information gathered, can help identify potential problems, and introduces you to the practice and the services we can offer you and your family.

Tullibody Tuesday 2.00-3.00pm
Children’s Immunisations
The first immunisation is done at baby’s 8-week check. All other immunisations are done at the Baby Clinic.
Children’s Health
All routine immunisations and health checks are carried out at the following clinics – no appointment is necessary.

Alva - Tuesday 2.30 –3.45pm
Tullibody - Thursday 2.00-3.15pm
Up to 12 yrs

Developmental Checks and Hearing Tests
The Doctors and Health Visitors arrange these.
Family Planning
The practice provides a full range of family planning services including oral contraception, hormone implant and IUCD fitting. See your doctor for advice.
Travel Immunisations and Booster jabs
These are provided by the doctor or Practice Nurse and must be arranged well before you travel. Ask the receptionist for information. Some travel immunisations are chargeable.
Wart Clinics
Wart clinics are held once a month in both Alva and Tullibody. You must see a GP prior to making an appointment to attend.
Diabetic Checks
The Practice nurses run clinic sessions for diabetic patients. The review offers comprehensive care to diabetic patients in the practice – either on its own or as part of a shared programme of care with the Diabetic Clinic at the hospital.
All diabetic patients will be offered regular check-ups at the clinic.
Heart Function Clinic
This is a nurse-led clinic with GP support, which offers checks and advice to patients with heart or blood pressure problems. Patients will be invited to attend either by the nurse or via their GP.
Respiratory Clinic
This clinic offers a high standard of care for patients with respiratory problems. It is important for patients with respiratory problems such as asthma to attend the clinic when they are well. If you require an appointment please telephone the surgery.
Flu Vaccinations
In accordance with the Department of Health Guidelines, we recommend an influenza vaccination for certain patients. These include: patients over 65 years of age, those with diabetes, chronic heart or lung disease and residents of nursing homes. The vaccine is available in October. Please contact the receptionist for further information.
Minor Surgery
The practice performs minor surgery such as cautery to warts, removal of skin tags etc. See your doctor for advice.
Health Promotion
We are committed to preventative medicine and would recommend that everyone have a blood pressure check every 3 years.
Women should have a cervical smear every 3 years.
Our health visitors are actively involved in health promotion. They run Smoking Cessation groups.
Well Woman Clinic
Practice Nurses all run well woman sessions. Checks performed include cervical smears, breast awareness, weight and blood pressure measurement. Ask the receptionist about making an appointment. If you feel you need to see a female doctor for this check, please tell the receptionist when you call.
Cervical Smear Tests
Appointments for smear tests can be made with either the practice nurse or the doctor. Please ensure you tell the receptionist why you want to see the nurse or doctor – as you will need a “double” surgery appointment. All women between the ages of 20 and 60 are invited to attend the surgery for a smear at least every 3 years.
Planning a Pregnancy
If you are planning a pregnancy, we suggest that you see one of the doctors or a Health Visitor beforehand for general health advice and to check that you are immune to rubella (German measles). It is also recommended that Folic Acid 400mcg tablets are taken daily before becoming pregnant, and for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Breast Screening (Mammography)
This is offered to all women between 50 and 65 years of age. The mobile screening unit comes to the practice every 3 years. Women over the age of 65 can arrange mammography by contacting the Breast Screening Service on 0141 572 5800.
In Case of Bereavement
If a death in the family occurs at home, please inform the patient’s doctor immediately as they will have to confirm the death.
A funeral director will be able to offer help with the practical details.
If death occurs in hospital, please notify your doctor – as sometimes communication between hospital and GP can be slow, and we would not want to cause unnecessary upset to relatives. The patient’s doctor will usually be able to issue a death certificate for the Registrar of Births and Deaths, and a cremation form if required. In certain cases of sudden death, the doctor will be required to inform the Procurator Fiscal’s office – usually via the police.
Everyone reacts differently to bereavement. It is an experience we will all have to endure at some point and can be difficult to cope with. Your doctor will be a willing listener and source of advice.
